Architect Boot Camp

Is Excellence In Your Future? - Let's Get IT Started Now...

Check out our architecture portal and discover the methods, techniques and strategies for you in your quest to become an architect, improve your skills or grow your IT Architect Career.

The portal contains how-to articles, checklists, samples, case studies, ideas, tips, tools, resources and templates to help you become a great Information Technology Architect.   Here you will also find downloads, a user forum, audio interviews, video tutorials and much more.

This week's poll:  What is Your Top Architecture Issue?

If you are just starting out, we suggest you start in the departments with the architecture domain you are most familiar with.  For example - if you are a database guru, why not try the Data/Info Architecture section.  Or - if you come from the programming world, start with Solution Architecture.

If you are visiting for the first time, we suggest you try the "IT Architecture Info" Section.  Here we'll find many areas to pique your interest, give you a few definitions and lead you on your way to setting context and becoming a sharp IT architect.

If you've returned, or decided this is the place for you, why not Join Now! today or check our our portal blog, or our Abstract Blog

Subject: An Old Dog Can Learn New Tricks

What Will It Do for You?

Lately I was asked a question I wished I could answer on paper.  It was "does the portal have a roadmap on how one wishing to retool their current Project manager skills would use to become an architect?"

My answer is in my book.  My book is at the editor's right now and I very much wish I could publish some of the roadmaps and graphics that will be in the book right here on this site right now.

Patience grasshopper - great things are coming.  Inside Zoom Factor, I've got all kinds of Architecture skill mappings, tips and techniques for doing most of the key architecture activities faster, and to the greatest level of excellence possible.

In the meantime, what do I tell someone who rightfully believes they can take their PM skills and apply them to architectecture:

  1. read the section on architecture definition
  2. read the section on role definitions
  3. read the section on frameworks & process
  4. read the section on "is architecture right for me"
  5. choose the domain architecture area that you feel matches your core strength best

This is my best answer with respect to the free content section.  If you want a better answer, you'll have to tune into the premium content section.

Happy Architecting!

Sharon

Subject: News and Progress in Many Fronts

Hello,

As you can see, we're finally able to take credit cards.  Believe it or not - technical glitch with my outsource partners.  As an architect it's frustrating to be at the centre of three parties trying to do something that Corporate world IT has been able to do for a long time, but it's working now and we move along.

I've had much progress with my book since I've spoken to many of you.  I've finally got more than a working title ---

"Architecting Your Career:  Building a Roadmap to Excellence as an IT Architect".  Estimated date from the publisher is April 28, 2009.

If you have recently downloaded our course calendar, you'll see that it's a little out of date.  Updates are on the way and will be sent to all of those you have downloaded a copy within the last six months.

The build for the video plug ins to this site's cousin at www.architectbootcamp.net have been complete, so video seminars and samples are now promoted on the upcoming content list.

Watch for many updates and additional content on the way.

Happy Architecting!

Subject: A New Year - A New Way to Learn

I can't tell you how happy I am to be finally writing this post.

You see, I've had an image and a plan for this site for at least two years, maybe even more.  The Architect Boot Camp site was born nearly four years ago, and after about a year of newsletters, this image popped into my head.  Now you will see it all in print!

As this is the first post, it's about this site.  It's a members only educational site, aimed to align perfectly with my upcoming book.  This site will demonstrate and share my work that I've accumulated over the past dozen years.  If you follow along, and participate in earnest, you will become that Excellent Architect I recently spoke about in Vegas at the Enterprise Architect Conference, and also the one born out of my book.

You'll see that this site is but a skeleton, but if you keep an eye on this post, as well as following me on Twitter, you'll learn what's coming next.

Well - there are some open holes to attend to - so I'd better get back to "closing the gap".  How appropriate for an Architecture Site.

You'll notice that there is also a link to my former blog - "The Architect Abstract".  That blog will remain, and eventually all of the links will be fixed to point back to this site, but it's a little lower on the priority list until the pages and pages of content I have ready for this site is here and ready for your perusal.

Happy Architecting!
